Sources and limits
Where every entry comes from
Liquidator.news holds no information of its own. It reads three public sources on a schedule and links each entry back to its record.
| Source | What is taken | Checked | Last good check |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEC EDGAR full-text search | For Form 8-K filings that mention Item 1.03, 2.05 or 3.01: the company name, ticker, CIK, business address, state of incorporation, SIC code, filing date, period date, item list and accession number. Kept only when the filing's own item list includes one of those items. The document itself is never copied. | Every 3 hours | Nov 2, 2026 3:17 AM ET |
| FDIC BankFind Suite API (failures) | Bank name, FDIC certificate number, city and state, closing date, total assets, total deposits and the FDIC's estimated loss, for failures since 2000. | Every 3 hours (with the EDGAR check) | Nov 2, 2026 3:17 AM ET |
| SEC company tickers file | Company names, tickers and CIK numbers, so a watch list can name any listed company. | Weekly | Oct 25, 2026 4:41 AM ET |
How the site asks
About one request a second at most, with a user agent that names this site, following the SEC's fair access guidance. Nothing is scraped from news sites; no story is rewritten; no AI writes anything here.
Limits you should know
- Only SEC filers and FDIC-insured banks appear. Most private businesses that close or file for bankruptcy never appear here.
- EDGAR's search index can lag the filing by hours; each check looks back seven days, so late entries are picked up.
- A filing that reports one of the items without the item number in its text can be missed by a full-text search.
- A listing notice (Item 3.01) or a restructuring (Item 2.05) is not a closure; profitable companies file Item 2.05 too. A Chapter 11 company often keeps operating.
- Business addresses are the ones the company gives the SEC; the state shown is that address, not where its stores or plants are.
- The record is the authority. If an entry here and the record disagree, the record is right; do not act on this page alone.
