Paying a seller safely (and the payment requests to refuse)
General information from public sources, not legal, tax or financial advice. Each guide links to the source.
On the Liquidation Market you pay the seller directly. That keeps fees low; it also means the payment method you choose is your protection.
Use
- PayPal Goods & Services to the seller’s PayPal account shown on the sale page. Eligible purchases are covered by PayPal’s Purchase Protection under PayPal’s own terms.
- The seller’s own card checkout if the sale page shows one. Card payments can be disputed with your card issuer.
Refuse
- Zelle, bank wire transfers, crypto (bitcoin or any other), gift cards, PayPal “friends and family”, Cash App, Venmo, money orders and cash by mail.
- Any request to pay before you can see the seller’s details on the sale page, or to move the conversation off the site.
The FTC warns that anyone who insists you pay with a gift card, a wire transfer or cryptocurrency is very likely a scammer. See consumer.ftc.gov, and report fraud at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
On the Market
Listings and messages that ask for those methods are screened automatically; report any that get through. If a seller asks anyway, use “Report this lot” with the reason “Asked for off-platform payment”. Liquidator.news never asks you to pay it for a lot.
